In a village in northern Spain, Jeanne (Marion Cotillard) is trying to rebuild her life with Daniel (Denis Ménochet), who knows nothing of her eventful past. One day, Jeanne's six-year-old godson Mateo mysteriously disappears. With the police hot on her heels, Jeanne flees to France and heads back to the community she escaped years earlier. Meanwhile, Daniel refuses to believe she is guilty and does everything in his power to find Jeanne before the police do.
