Mega is a talented martial artist, but an injury brings her career to an abrupt end. While she tries to process her grief, danger rears its head: her younger brother Bilal has gambled himself deep into debt, drawing the attention of a ruthless gang of criminals.
About ten years ago, Indonesian action cinema made its international breakthrough with films like The Raid (2012), The Raid 2: Berandal (2014), Killers (2014) and Headshot (2016). A decade later, a new generation is following in the footsteps of Gareth Evans and the Mo Brothers. Ikatan Darah (English title: Blood Ties) is produced by the team of Iko Uwais, whose action choreography was essential to the success of that first wave. Director Sidharta Tata uses brotherly and sisterly love as the emotional core of the film – filling the rest with thrilling martial arts.
