Last month, Sophy Romvari’s Blue Heron landed in independent cinemas, in May, Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord won the Palme d'Or in Cannes, and now, at the Cineville Preview Days, it’s time for Marijna Jankovic’s feature debut Home. A wave of films about migrant families leaving Eastern Europe for the promised land of the West: from Hungary to Canada, from Romania to Norway, and with Home, from the former Yugoslavia to Denmark. All these films explore a universal, friction-filled question: does moving to a new country and culture bring new opportunities, or do you lose your grip on who you are along the way?
